Q. 1- What is a plant of medium height (1-3 m) called?

Ans- Shrubs

Q. 2- Name the fibrous underground part of a plant.

Ans- Root system

Ans-The name of the process is photosynthesis in which sunlight plays a very important role in life of plant. If a green plant does not get sunlight, it cannot make its food.

Q. 3- Name two plants each whose (a) modified stem (b) modified roots, can store food.

Ans- (a) Modified stems which can store food are -potato and onion.

        (b) Modified roots which can store food are-Sweet potato and radish.

DEFINE THE FOLLOWING TERMS

1- The shoot system of a plant - The part of the plant above the ground is called shoot system. It consists of stem, branches, leaves, flowers and fruits.

2 - Transpiration The process of loss of water from the leaves of a plant is called transpiration.

3 - Stomata -The tiny openings present at the lower surface of the leaves. They help in respiration and transpiration.

4 - Stamens - Many little stalks with swollen tops around the centre of the flower is called stamens. Stamens are the male parts of the flower.

5 - Primary roots - The root that originates at germination stage from the radicle of the seed is called primary root. During the growth it branches to form secondary roots.

Q. 1 - Roots of pea, bean and gram plants have nodules on them. What are the functions of these nodules?

Ans- These nodules have some symbiotic bacteria (Rhizobium bacteria) that help in fixing the atmospheric nitrogen into nitrates.

Q. 2 - How are the nature of roots and venation in the leaves of a plant related?

Ans- If the plant has tap root, the leaf shows the reticulate venation.

If the plant has fibrous root, its leaves show the parallel venation.

Q. 3 - Why the banana “tree” is herb?

Ans - Banana plant referred as herb not a “tree” because its stem is not woody whereas the stem of a tree is woody. The stem(trunk) of banana is a collection of rolled leaves.

Q. 4 - A small plant has no leaves. It has fibrous roots. What type of venation would it show?

Ans - Its leaves would show the parallel venation.
